Key #4 – The Key of Humility

James 4:6: “God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”

In today’s culture, arrogance is often mistaken for confidence, and humility is often perceived as weakness. The values that reign in this world are very different than those of God’s Kingdom. In the world’s value system, you can do whatever you must to get ahead. If this means lying and cheating, it is okay as long as you can get ahead.

Yet, Jesus turns this idea on its head when He declares, “the last will be first, and the first last”(Matthew 20:16). James adds to this when he writes in our key verse, God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. So, humility is the gateway to true greatness in God’s Kingdom. You don’t advance by selfish acts, but rather through selfless living.

When humility is practiced, there is no need to seek recognition, applause, or even acknowledgment. Those are never the goal of a humble heart. A humble heart desires character over charisma, and service over status. They value serving when no one is watching; their worship isn’t about the platform, but rather, it is realized in privacy.

Humility opens doors that pride bolts shut. Joseph’s humility in prison positioned him for Pharaoh’s palace. David’s humility before Saul prepared him for Israel’s throne. I am reminded of the Roman centurion when he tells Jesus, I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof… (Luke 7:6), resulting in the healing of his servant. That spirit of humility moves God to bring about great things in your life. Even Jesus humbled Himself to the point of death (Phil. 2:8)—and was highly exalted (Philippians 2:9).When you humble yourself under God’s mighty hand, you invite His timing and His exaltation. I like saying it this way: when you humble yourself, you are literally getting out of God’s way, so that He can move on your behalf. The proud strive to open doors by force; the humble wait, and God Himself unlocks them. Use the key of humility to unlock God’s riches, honor, and life. Proverbs 22:4 -By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches and honor and life.

Llave #4: La Llave de la Humildad

Santiago 4:6: Pero él da mayor gracia. Por esto dice: Dios resiste a los soberbios, y da gracia a los humildes.

En la cultura actual, la arrogancia se confunde a menudo con la confianza, y la humildad se percibe a menudo como debilidad. Los valores que reinan en este mundo son muy diferentes a los del Reino de Dios. En el sistema de valores del mundo, puedes hacer lo que sea necesario para salir adelante. Si esto significa mentir y engañar, no hay problema, siempre y cuando puedas salir adelante.

Sin embargo, Jesús da un giro completo a esta idea cuando declara: “Los primeros serán postreros, y los postreros, Primeros,prque muchos son llamados…” (Mateo 20:16). Santiago añade a esto cuando escribe en nuestro versículo clave: Dios resiste a los soberbios, pero da gracia a los humildes. Por lo tanto, la humildad es la puerta de entrada a la verdadera grandeza en el Reino de Dios. No se avanza con actos egoístas, sino con una vida desinteresada.

Cuando se practica la humildad, no hay necesidad de buscar reconocimiento, aplausos o incluso agradecimiento. Esos nunca son el objetivo de un corazón humilde. Un corazón humilde desea el carácter por encima del carisma y el servicio por encima del estatus. Valora servir cuando nadie lo ve; su adoración no se basa en una plataforma, sino que se realiza en lo privado.

La humildad abre puertas que el orgullo cierra con llave. La humildad de José en la cárcel lo posicionó para el palacio del faraón. La humildad de David ante Saúl lo preparó para el trono de Israel. Me recuerda al centurión romano cuando le dice a Jesús: “No soy digno de que entres bajo mi techo...” (Lucas 7:6), lo que resultó en la curación de su siervo. Ese espíritu de humildad mueve a Dios a hacer grandes cosas en tu vida. Incluso Jesús se humilló hasta la muerte y muerte de cruz (Filipenses 2:8), y fue altamente exaltado (Filipenses 2:9).

Cuando te humillas bajo la poderosa mano de Dios, invitas a Su tiempo y Su exaltación. Me gusta decirlo de esta manera: cuando te humillas, literalmente te apartas del camino de Dios, para que Él pueda actuar en tu nombre. Los orgullosos se esfuerzan por abrir las puertas por la fuerza; los humildes esperan, y Dios mismo las abre. Usa la llave de la humildad para abrir las riquezas, el honor y la vida de Dios. Proverbios 22:4 - Con la humildad y el temor del Señor vienen las riquezas, el honor y la vida.
