At the beginning of a chess game, most of the strong pieces are blocked and cannot move. So, a wise player understands the importance of creating openings for those pieces to be included in the game. This is called developing your pieces.
The Biblical Principle
God places gifts, abilities, opportunities, and experiences in His people. But those gifts must be stirred, trained, and used. Spiritual development is essential in the life of every believer. While everyone’s gifts are different, everyone has been entrusted with something. Some have 10 talents, others only one, but everyone has been given something to work with.
Paul told Timothy, “Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.” – 2 Timothy 1:6
Paul is reminding Timothy that a gift divinely given still requires human effort. Although Timothy was young, he was gifted to lead. Yet, he must be willing to face his fear and step into the calling God has given him. It is of no avail to be greatly gifted if you are unwilling to step up, step in, and step out. There are many with uncultivated gifts that are still sitting at the starting line. But God is calling us to take action, to stir up the gifts, to put them to use.

La Estrategia del Ajedrez
Al comienzo de una partida de ajedrez, la mayoría de las piezas fuertes están bloqueadas y no pueden moverse. Por eso, un jugador prudente comprende la importancia de crear aberturas para que esas piezas puedan incorporarse al juego. A esto se le llama desarrollar tus piezas.
El Principio Bíblico
Dios deposita dones, habilidades, oportunidades y experiencias en su pueblo. Pero esos dones deben ser avivados, cultivados y utilizados. El desarrollo espiritual es esencial en la vida de todo creyente. Aunque los dones de cada uno son diferentes, a todos se nos ha confiado algún don. Algunos tienen diez talentos, otros solo uno, pero a todos se nos ha dado algo con lo que trabajar.
Pablo le dijo a Timoteo: “Por lo cual te aconsejo que avives el fuego del don de Dios que está en ti por la imposición de mis manos.” - 2 Timoteo 1:6
Pablo le recuerda a Timoteo que un don otorgado por Dios sigue requiriendo esfuerzo humano. Aunque Timoteo era joven, tenía el don del liderazgo. Sin embargo, debía estar dispuesto a enfrentarse a su miedo y a dar un paso adelante hacia el llamamiento al que Dios le había llamado. De nada sirve tener grandes dones si no estás dispuesto a dar un paso al frente, a involucrarte y lanzarte. Hay muchos con dones sin cultivar que siguen sentados en la línea de salida. Pero Dios nos llama a actuar, a avivar los dones y a ponerlos en práctica.

- ¿Qué me impide utilizar este don?
- Pide a alguien maduro en la fe que te señale si ve potencial en alguna área de servicio.
