Do Not Move Too Quickly

A premature attack often fails because moves were made hastily without much thought. This happens at times when you lose a piece and respond by quickly trying to take the same piece from your opponent. Since this is done in the heat of the moment, you didn’t think the move through, only to realize it was a trap. Strong players and not impulsive. They consider all the possibilities before committing to a move.

 

The Biblical Principle

Faith is bold, but never impulsive. Godly decisions should always be shaped with prayer, knowledge, wise counsel, and sensitive to God’s Spirit.

 

Proverbs 19:2, Also it is not good for a soul to be without knowledge, and he sins who hastens with his feet.

 

Proverbs connect acting in haste with a lack of knowledge. This doesn’t mean there are not moments when immediate action doesn’t need to be taken. The danger is moving before understanding why and what the consequences of those decisions can produce.

 

This can happen as the result of pressure, which may cause the illusion that immediate action is required. Fear tends to influence us like this, as well as pride. Anger is always quick to answer, but wisdom will always pause and consider. King Saul gets tired of waiting on the Prophet Samuel, and he offers the sacrifice before going to war. He did this because, “…when I saw the people were scattered from me, and that you did not come…” (1 Samuel 13:11). The very next verse says that he felt compelled. But Samuel’s rebuke is fitting for decisions made in haste, “You have done foolishly…” (1 Samuel 13:13).

 

Waiting on God is not inactivity, it gives room for God to reveal, expose, and clarify some things. Had Saul waiting a little longer, all would have been well. But in his haste, he found pain and loss (1 Samuel 13:13-14). Let’s not miss out on what God has prepared for us, by reacting too quickly.

 

Isaiah 40:31, But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.

  1. What pressures are provoking me to move hastily?
  2. Whose counsel have you considered before your decision?
  3. Have you separated your fears, and feelings from the facts?

Un ataque prematuro suele fracasar porque las jugadas se realizan a toda prisa y sin pensarlas bien. Esto ocurre a veces cuando pierdes una pieza y respondes intentando rápidamente quitarle la misma pieza a tu oponente. Como esto se hace en el calor del momento, no has analizado bien la jugada y acabas dándote cuenta de que era una trampa. Los jugadores fuertes no son impulsivos. Tienen en cuenta todas las posibilidades antes de decidirse por un movimiento.

 

El Principio Bíblico

La fe es audaz, pero nunca impulsiva. Las decisiones piadosas siempre deben basarse en la oración, el conocimiento, el consejo sabio y la sensibilidad al Espíritu de Dios.

 

Proverbios 19:2, “El alma sin ciencia no es buena, Y aquel que se apresura con los pies, peca.”

 

Proverbios relaciona actuar con precipitación con la falta de conocimiento. Esto no significa que no haya momentos en los que sea necesario actuar de inmediato. El peligro radica en actuar antes de comprender por qué y cuáles pueden ser las consecuencias de esas decisiones.

 

Esto puede suceder como resultado de la presión, que puede crear la ilusión de que se requiere una acción inmediata. El miedo tiende a influir en nosotros de esta manera, al igual que el orgullo. La ira siempre se apresura a responder, pero la sabiduría siempre se detendrá a reflexionar. El rey Saúl se cansa de esperar al profeta Samuel y ofrece el sacrificio antes de ir a la guerra. Lo hizo porque “…Porque vi que el pueblo se me desertaba, y que tú no venías…” (1 Samuel 13:11). El versículo siguiente dice que se sintió obligado a actuar. Pero el regaño del Profeta Samuel es acertado para las decisiones tomadas a la precipitación: “Entonces Samuel dijo a Saúl: Locamente has hecho…” (1 Samuel 13:13).

 

Esperar en Dios no es inactividad, sino que da espacio para que Dios revele, ponga de manifiesto y aclare algunas cosas. Si Saúl hubiera esperado un poco más, todo habría salido bien. Pero, en su prisa, encontró dolor y pérdida (1 Samuel 13:13-14). No dejemos pasar lo que Dios tiene preparado para nosotros por reaccionar con demasiada rapidez.

 

Isaías 40:31, Pero los que esperan a Jehová tendrán nuevas fuerzas; levantarán alas como las águilas; correrán, y no se cansarán; caminarán, y no se fatigarán.
